A Bit About Worship

We can learn new things every day, if we open ourselves up to the possibility of being transformed by our experiences. I learned a lot about worship on Sunday, as we invited some friends from Lakefield Baptist Church to lead us in the musical side of worship. This group of young musicians demonstrated excellent musicianship, but also very humble and worshipful hearts. They were there to lead, not perform. They were there to worship.

It was facianating to watch the people of DBC worship with this group of young people. They were louder than we’re used to, they sang some songs we didn’t know, they had us stand longer than normal. Yet despite these differences, our people caught on quickly and “went with the flow.” The music was good, and it was all focused on God, who brought us together, who blessed our differences, and who invited us to rejoice together in the power of a living God who moved amongst us that day.

If you are in the Lakefield area, check out Lakefield Baptist Church. If you are in the Dundas area, join us for worship. We are constantly learning from our experiences, and seeing how God is moving amongst us, shaping us into the people God wants us to be. Join us as we’re shaped together.

Moving Experiences

There are certain experiences that we have in our life that move us, change us, and shape us. This past Monday morning I had the opportunity to have one of these types of experiences.
Two weeks before a young woman in our congregation announced that she was raising money for cancer awareness, and would shave her head (shoulder length hair) for the cause. The people of DBC stepped up with open hearts and open wallets. This young woman, in two Sunday’s, raised over $1200 from the people of DBC.
This past Monday she had her head shaved. To see the joy of knowing that she was doing her part to help those in need was a wonder to behold. She was glowing, radiant, and full of God’s joy. Being part of that experience, watching her make this commitment (and when you shave your head there is no going back, at least for a few months), for the good of others, was amazing. It moved me to see and be part of this.
And to know that the people of DBC were part of supporting this young woman filled my heart with joy. What a remarkable witness it is for this young woman to tell her friends and teachers that the funds she raised were in large part thanks to the generosity of … her church.
Blessings to her and to each of us as we seek to discover what experiences God is calling us to. May we be moved and move others in the love and grace of God.

Reflections on Holy Week

Holy Week at Dundas Baptist Church was exciting.  Beginning on Palm Sunday, when each member of our congregation joined in the waving of the Palms, moving through Maundy Thursday and the ordinance of communion, on to Good Friday and the remembrance of Jesus’ last moments on this earth, and culminating on Easter Sunday, it was a memorable week. It is important to remember that Holy Week is a journey, and we are invited to join as a community and walk together through the last days of Jesus’ life. Easter is all the more powerful when we see it as the culmination of various events, rather than as a stand-alone celebration.  Christ is risen, because he first died, for us.

It was a pleasure to journey with such wonderful people here at DBC. A special thank-you to all of those who helped make Holy Week so significant.  Blessings to you all.

Dundas Baptist Church is Blogging!

In an increased effort to stay connected with the people of Dundas Baptist Church, near and far, Dundas Baptist Church has found a home for a blog. This blog will be updated by Rev. Michael Ford, Senior Minister at Dundas Baptist Church. We pray that it will be a place for information, conversation, and to share our journey of faith together.
